Kosinski rolls season best 843 series in Corning. See who rolled 300s, won league titles

Two months ago Mike Kosinski subbed in the Sun Legends Grille Mixed League at Crystal Lanes and tossed an 809 series. He blew that mark out of the lanes this past week when he was asked to sub again on the last night of the schedule and blasted a season best 843 series.

After opening the evening with a rather robust 267 game, it was merely a preview of what was to come. His next 24 shots turned into 22 strikes and two spares. Mike strung the first eleven in the second game before a slightly errant shot left a couple of pins for a 298 game. He also had one of those shots in the middle of the third game, but the other 11 tosses were strikes and resulted in a 278 game.

That season high 843 series was Mike’s second eight of the season, the tenth one rolled at Crystal Lanes this year and perhaps gives Mike the legitimate title as the Sunday Super Sub. Great way to put a cap on a season.

Cevette, Stevenson toss 300 games

Bob Cevette and Neil Stevenson each rolled a 300 game to push the total of perfect games this season at Crystal Lanes to 40, which is the most 300s games in five seasons. There were 58 perfect games thrown in the 2018-19 season.

Bob Cevette opened the scoring in the Hatfield Real Estate Men’s League with the first 12 shots in the pocket. They all carried 10 pins and that 300 game paved the way to a 716 series after he added scores of 211 and 216.

There were also eight other guys over the 700 mark in the Hatfield League, led by Nick Dobson’s 778 (223-257-298) total which earned him runner-up honors for the week. Chad Farr polished off games of 236, 267 and 257 for a 760 series while Tim DeGraw flew a 747 set and Derik Lisi tossed a 723. Justin Pack came away with a 720 set while Mike Kosinski hit 716 and Johnny Miller recorded a 709. Tanner Kizis made it an eight-pack with a707 series.

A couple of nights later in the Tire World of Corning Men’s League, Neil Stevenson joined that growing list of perfect games. After warming up with a 193 game, Neil zeroed in on the pocket and deposited 12 strikes in a row for his first 300 game in the Corning Association. He closed the night with a 237 effort for a 730 series.

Another quartet of bowlers in the T-W League also topped seven, led by Adam Madigan’s 772 series on games of 226, 279 and 267. His teammate Jim Sjoblom was second with a 746 set while another pair of teammates, Joe Cronin and Mike Brewster, rolled scores of 727 and 721 respectively. Joe’s series was highlighted by a 299 game.

A trio of fellows in the Addison Men’s League topped seven with Levi Weiskopff leading the way by putting together games of 269, 244 and 255 for a 768 series. He was joined by Ben Weiskopff with a 736 and Lou Southard at 702.

A quintet of seven shooters highlighted the action in the Joey’s Contracting Mixed League. Johhny Miller’s 750 series featured a 279 game while Brandon Butler capped a 745 set with a 277 game. Jason Huntley rolled a 743 while Vince Kosty tossed a 721 and Robert Guardi came away with a 702 total.

Rounding out the seven-shooters this week was the duo of Chad Farr and Joe Mamor in the Gary Cortright Memorial Mixed League. Chad led the way with a 751 series while Joe tossed a 722 set.

In an abbreviated week of action for the ladies, there were only a couple of gals over the 600 mark. Anita Gennosa cashed in a 678 series in the Cortright League while Heather Farr paced the ladies in the Jubilee Mixed League with a 615 series.

Same can be said of the senior leagues with limited action. Gary Gustin topped the seniors this week when he capped a 650 series with a 260 game in the Striking Seniors Mixed League. Don Pierce notched the only other senior six when he rolled a 632 in the Go-Getters Mixed League.

Season-opening golf tournament at Indian Hills

It’s time to get the sticks out. Golf courses in the area are now open. A great tip of the hat to the grounds crews of all the local courses getting a jump on the new season. A mild winter helped but a wet early spring proved to be a challenge at times, but the guys on the grounds at all the local courses have met that challenge and this area has a number of courses in great shape already.

Kicking off the tournament season this spring are a couple of events at Indian Hills Golf Club. This Saturday, April 27 they will host the Ice Breaker Tournament with a 10 a.m. shotgun start. It’s captain and crew format that is open to all golfers. They will have a men’s division, a women’s division and mixed division. The mixed division must be two male and two female golfers.

Entry fee for the event is $50 for members and $75 for non-members. That fee includes 18 holes with cart, buffet style lunch, hot dog at the turn, hole prizes and a few other giveaways.

On the first weekend of May, which will be May 3-4-5, the 2024 Joe Smith Open will be presented by Indian Hills. This popular tournament is a doubles event with an entry fee of $300 per team. That fee includes a Friday practice round (cart not included), a 36-hole (with carts) Best Ball format that will be flighted after one day. Tee times both days begin at 8 a.m. and are allocated on a first paid, first serve basis. They will offer a hot dog and drink at the turn and a steak dinner after Sunday’s round. There will also be an optional skins game and a cash pool.
