The canine who gets to take home the top dog prize at the Cannes Film Festival 2024 has finally been declared. On Friday, May 24, canine actor Kodi from “Dog on Trial” was declared the Palm Dog Award 2024 winner. The Griffon mix plays the role of Cosmos in “Le Procès du Chien.” In the film, the dog is put on trial for biting a stranger.

Kodi from “Dog on Trial” got to take home the top prize for canines at Cannes 2024. This year’s Palm Dog Award winner is a blonde Griffon mix who will soon turn ten. The rescue dog’s journey at the film festival hasn’t been as smooth-flowing as last year’s winner, Messi.

The canine was banned from the red carpet as he couldn’t stop humping Laetitia Dosch’s leg during her interview. Per AP News, there was also a point when he couldn’t stop licking the actor’s face. Then, the dog was taken away from her for the rest of the interview and banned from further red-carpet appearances.

Kodi is the movie’s main star because the plot revolves around his role as Cosmos. Dosch plays the role of Avril and defends Cosmos in court during his trial. The film takes inspiration from a true story. According to Variety, Toby Rose, founder of the Palm Dog Award, noted that the 2024 winner will soon be retiring from acting.

Kodi wasn’t the only winner at the Cannes Film Festival, as “Black Dog” star Xin won the Grand Jury Prize. Xin is a Jack Russell Terrier and Greyhound mix adopted by her co-star, Taiwanese actor Eddie Peng. The duo formed a bond during filming, and Peng had to take her home with him. The actor jokingly mentioned that with the pup’s newfound popularity, he might not have to work as an actor anymore and could serve as her agent instead.
