Knoxville man facing second-degree murder charge after woman's death in 2023
A 33-year-old Knoxville man has been indicted on second-degree murder charges in connection with the shooting death of a woman in East Knoxville last year.
A Knox County grand jury has indicted Thomas Solomon, a Knoxville Police Department spokesperson said earlier this week.
Solomon was indicted for second-degree murder for "unlawfully and knowingly" killing Trista Denton, 47, of Knoxville, according to court records. He also was indicted on a charge of unlawful possession of a weapon.
At about 10:45 a.m. Oct. 9, a police officer was flagged down for a woman who had been shot at the corner of Ben Hur and Martin Luther King Jr. avenues. Denton later died at the hospital.
A witness reported that someone shot Denton, got into a car and fled the scene.
Solomon has a $250,000 bond in this case, but is in custody on another matter, a court clerk said. He is set to appear in court on the murder charge May 24.
