What to know about Rangers' Globe Life Field, Diamondbacks' Chase Field for World Series

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Texas Rangers will square off in one of the most improbable World Series ever beginning Friday.

The Rangers were the No. 5 seed in the American League Players and the Diamondbacks were the sixth and final seed in the National League.

Games 1, 2 and Games 6 and 7, if necessary, will be played at the Rangers' Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

Games 3, 4 and 5 (if necessary), will be at the Diamondbacks' Chase Field in Phoenix.

This will be the first World Series where both stadiums have roofs, but it will interestingly not be the first World Series played entirely in a stadium with a roof. The 2020 World Series between the Tampa Bay Rays and Los Angeles Dodgers was played at the Rangers' stadium due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Here's some interesting facts to know about the venues for the 2023 World Series:

What to know about Texas Rangers' Globe Life Stadium

The Rangers played their first regular season baseball game at the stadium on July 24, 2020.

The name comes from the Globe Life and Accident Insurance Company, which owns the naming rights on the stadium through 2048.

The deepest distance on the field is 410 feet, while the centerfield is 407 feet. The right field line is 326 feet, while the left field line is 329 feet.

The stadium is scheduled to host the 2024 Major League Baseball All-Star Game.

It has hosted the National Finals Rodeo and an Army vs. Air Force college football game as well as many concerts, including Metallica, Laga Gaga, Def Leppard and Motley Crue, Elton John, the Jonas Brothers and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

It has a capacity of 40,300.

The stadium has a retractable roof, which MLB.com describes as follows: "The 5.5-acre retractable roof is one of the most prominent features of Globe Life Field and will provide shade and cooler temperature 365 days a year, keeping the average temperature in the mid-70s. It is the largest single-panel operable roof in the world and weighs 24 million pounds. The roof is comprised by a white rubber membrane on the north and south sloped planes, and the flat center is covered with 223 clear panels made of ETFE (ethylene tetrafluoroethylene), a transparent plastic polymer-related material, allowing for natural light to fill the entire facility. The roof structure consists of five steel trusses and tie-in steel between each truss, and its construction required 19,000 tons of steel. The roof can open in approximately 12 minutes."

The field uses synthetic grass, with the infield and warning track clay surfaces.

The project cost for Globe Life Field was approximately $1.2 billion.

What to know about Arizona Diamondbacks' Chase Field

The Diamondbacks' stadium has hosted one World Series, like the Rangers' stadium, but the Diamondbacks played and won that World Series in 2001.

The Diamondbacks first played a regular-season game at the venue on March 31, 1998.

The field was originally called Bank One Ballpark, but became Chase Field when Bank One merged with JP Morgan Chase & Co. in 2005. The naming rights deal is for 30 years since the opening of the stadium.

Centerfield is 407 feet, while left field is 220 and right field is 335. Left center is 376 and right center is 376.

Chase Field hosted the 2011 MLB All-Star Game.

It has hosted college football bowl games, and World Baseball Classic Games/ as well as women's college basketball games. The stadium has also hosted concerts over the years, including Black Sabbath, NSYNC, Kenny Chesney, Billy Joes, Bad Bunny, Elton John, Pink and Guns N' Roses.

It has a capacity of 48,519.

The stadium uses a retractable roof, but the roof can't be opened or closed during games because of concerns about the integrity of the cables used to pull it open and closed, which could potentially endanger fans. The issues have lingered since the beginning of the 2022 season. The team couldn't fix it before the 2023 season because of the World Baseball Classic and other events, but aims to fix it after this season. There is no threat of the roof collapsing, according to Diamondbacks President Derrick Hall. The Diamondbacks lease at the venue runs through 2027 and there has been speculation about how long the team could play there.

The Chase Field playing surface is now artificial turf after being natural grass for the majority of the team's time at the stadium.

Chase Field cost $364 million to build.

Its most recognizable and unique feature? A pool in right-center field, which the team has occasionally jumped in to celebrate huge victories.
