What you should know about downtown Milwaukee Kohl's store opening Friday, Nov. 3
A new Kohl's department store is coming to downtown Milwaukee. Starting Friday at 630 N. Vel R. Phillips Ave., Milwaukee area shoppers can hit up the new space, use their Kohl's Cash or browse the racks.
The store is 35,000 square feet with a 2,500 square foot Sephora at Kohl’s shop featured prominently at the Wisconsin Avenue entrance. The typical Kohl's store is around 80,000 square feet. The size of the store is part of a strategy the company is using to be flexible with merchandise and purposeful for its space.
Kohl's employees have been putting the finishing touches on the store, including a soft launch this past Sunday, to get it ready for the big opening.
The opening comes just as the company heads into the holiday season where it plans to offer multiple ways for shoppers to save.
What savings or deals will this store offer?
Aside from normal in-store sales and Kohl's Cash, the company has a lot planned for November and Black Friday. Kohl’s Black Friday Early Access event returns in early November with opportunities to snag deals on popular gifts and the savings continue all month long with two "super Saturday" deal events leading up to Black Friday.
Customers can look to Kohl’s to provide deals all week leading to Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
What will the downtown Milwaukee store sell?
The store is filled with an assortment of merchandise to fit the needs of the downtown shopper in addition to its regular Kohl's brand items.
There will be a localized assortment of Milwaukee products like Milwaukee Home drinkware, holiday ornaments, pet, and accessories. The store will also include Home by Homefield apparel, including T-shirts and hoodies.
Will I be able to make Amazon returns at this store?
Yes. Services include self-pick up, self-checkout and Amazon returns.
How many people work at the Kohl's store in downtown Milwaukee?
The company began hiring people for the store in August. The store plans to be staffed with 10 full-time employees and 60 part-time employees.
Where are the entrances to the new store?
There are three entrances to the store: an entrance on Wisconsin Avenue, an entrance from the 3rd Street Market Hall, and from the elevator that leads to the parking structure on Vel Phillips Avenue.
Is this the only Kohl's store in Milwaukee?
No. The company has a store at 3737 S. 27th St., Milwaukee. Nationwide, Kohl’s has more than 1,100 stores.
For most of its history, Kohl'shas avoided urban locations in favor of stores in the suburbs.
The company has been planning on opening the store since July 2022.
What are the hours for the downtown Milwaukee Kohl's?
The store opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Saturday. On Fridays, the store opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 8 p.m. and on Sunday the store opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 7 p.m.
What store was in the Kohl's downtown Milwaukee location previously?
Before Kohl's came to the location, that corner on Vel R. Phillips and Wisconsin Avenue was known by many to have a Boston Store. The old Grand Avenue Mall opened in 1982 and like many malls housed a number of different stores.
More recently the space has transformed into housing, office space and the popular Third Street Market Hall.
