You probably best know Luke Newton from his role as Colin in Netflix’s hit series Bridgerton. He’s about to become an even bigger star as he plays the leading man in the show’s next season.
Bridgerton season 3, which debuts on May 16, 2024, focuses on Colin’s relationship with Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), which means they might finally tie up some loose ends and see their friendship blossom.
There’s been a lot of buzz surrounding Newton and his co-star, but contrary to the internet’s wishes, their characters’ romantic relationship doesn’t leave the set.

Newton made his TV debut in 2010.
Newton’s first major TV role was in 2010, when he was cast as Luke Atwood in the BBC Two series The Cut as a teen. He made his first appearance as Colin Bridgerton 10 years later, in December 2020.
Newton has done off-screen work as well. He starred in the play The Shape of Things in 2023, which was nominated for Best Off-West End Production at the WhatsOnStage Awards.
Newton was on the Disney Channel before starring in Bridgerton.
After being in The Cut, but pre-Bridgerton, Newton was a Disney Channel star in the U.K. In 2016, he was cast as Ben Evans, a repairman in the British sitcom The Lodge. The series lasted two seasons, wrapping up in 2017.
Newton also sings.
Though his career is currently centered around acting, Newton is also a singer. In fact, he used to post covers on his YouTube channel. He’s also made some music for his Disney Channel show, The Lodge.
Newton is real-life friends with his on-screen lover, Nicola Coughlan.
Despite what many fans believed, and despite their hand-holding on the red carpet, Newton is not in a romantic relationship with his Bridgerton co-star Coughlan. They are friends in real life, however. In May 2024, a source close to the pair told People that “they are supportive co-stars for each other,” but “they are not dating.”
In May 2023, Newton posted a blurry photo of them smiling and sticking their tongues out together. He captioned the post with two “😝😜” emojis.
Coughlan has also included Newton on her Instagram account. Last summer, she supported the actor when he starred in the the play The Shape of Things.
“Smashing it up on the London stage and I’m so proud, you’re the best,” she wrote along with a picture of them smiling next to each other in a restaurant booth.
Newton is likely single.
Previously, he was dating West End stage actress Jade Davies. They reportedly split some time during 2022 after entering a relationship in 2019. Apparently he’s even been spotted on Raya.
Newton was also said to be dating his The Lodge co-star Sophie Simnett throughout their time filming, but neither of them ever confirmed or denied the rumors.
