What to know about ACU, HSU and McMurry graduate ceremonies

Graduation season is happening throughout May, and three colleges in Abilene are first to walk the stage this weekend.

Abilene Christian University, McMurry University and Hardin-Simmons University are hosting commencements on Friday and Saturday.

Abilene Christian University

Abilene Christian University will award 840 degrees throughout three ceremonies this weekend. During the Friday ceremony, 246 masters and 53 doctoral degrees will be awarded. During Saturday's two graduation ceremonies, 541 bachelor's degrees will be presented.

The master's and doctoral commencement ceremony is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at Moody Coliseum on the ACU campus. Attendees will hear from Dr. Christopher W. Cobbler Sr., executive director of the Center for Vocational Formation and dean of vocational formation at ACU Dallas.

Undergraduates from the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, the College of Biblical Studies and the Onstead College of Science and Engineering will graduate at 10 a.m. Saturday at Moody Coliseum.

The ceremony for undergraduates from the College of Business Administration, the College of Graduate and Professional Studies and the College of Health and Behavioral Sciences will start at 2 p.m. Saturday at Moody Coliseum.

The address for both Saturday ceremonies will be done by Michael Miller, ACU 1999 alumnus and senior pastor of UPPERROOM.

All three ceremonies will be livestreamed online, including the undergraduate ceremonies and the graduate ceremony.

McMurry University

McMurry University's baccalaureate ceremony will be 5:30 p.m. Friday in the Radford Auditorium. Students graduating with University Honors will receive their honor's hood and four graduating senior awards will be presented.

McMurry University's May 2024 Commencement is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Kimbrell Arena, 2249 Sayles Boulevard, in the J.W. Hunt Physical Education Center.

Two honorary doctorate recipients, one master's degree recipient and 117 bachelor's degree recipients will be awarded during the ceremony.

The university's first eight graduates of the McMurry Dual Credit Academy will receive associate degrees.

Hardin-Simmons University

Hardin-Simmons University will host its two spring commencement ceremonies at Abilene Convention Center, 1100 North Sixth Street, on Friday.

Graduates from the College of Health Professionals, Holland School of Sciences and Mathematics and Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing will graduate Friday morning at 10 a.m.

Students graduating from the Cynthia Ann Parker College of Liberal Arts and Kelley College of Business and Professional Studies will graduate 2 p.m. Friday afternoon.

During the morning ceremony, graduates will hear from Congressman Roger Williams, U.S. representative for the 25th Congressional District. Graduates in the afternoon ceremony will hear an address from Dr. Larry McGraw, associate dean of the Cynthia Ann Parker College of Liberal Arts.
