Klement's Sausage Company acquired by Chicago-based Amylu Foods

Bay View-based Klement's Sausage Company has been acquired by Chicago-based Amylu Foods.

Amylu announced it was buying the Wisconsin sausage maker from Tall Tree Foods, which bought a majority stake in Klement's in 2014.

Tall Tree Foods is owned by Altamont Capital Partners, a private equity firm with more than $4 billion of assets.

Details about the sale, including the price and possible impact on local jobs, have not been made public.

Steven Zoll, CEO of Amylu Foods, said the company plans to continue making products at its facility in Milwaukee but "while specific plans for the facilities are still being evaluated, our intention is to leverage these assets to enhance production capacity and expand our presence in the region."

"Amylu Foods will welcome a dedicated team of around 300 employees from Klement's Sausage Company," Zoll said. "In terms of creating new jobs, the team is still working out those details."

Amylu Foods specializes in chicken products are sold at a variety of grocery store chains including Costco Wholesale, Walmart, Meijer and Whole Foods.

Klements president Jeff Baker said the company is "delighted to unite with the dynamic Amylu Foodsfamily."

"This strategic combination promises exciting prospects for both brands, empowering us to extend the reach of our cherished Wisconsin flavors to an even wider audience," Baker said.

Zoll said in the announcement of the acquisition of Klement's is "a significant step in our growth strategy."

"We are excited to welcome this iconic Wisconsin brand into our portfolio and look forward to offering our customers an expanded range of premium meat products," Zoll said.

Klement's Sausage Company was formed in Milwaukee in 1956 by three brothers, John, George and Ron Klement after they bought the Badger Sausage Factory on the south side.

The company continued to produce sausage products in Milwaukee after it was bought by Tall Tree Foods in 2014.
