How KISS Plans to 'Rock Forever' After Final Show

KISS band

The rock band KISS just revealed how it plans to live on forever, with their End of the Road Tour being the beginning of a new version of the band.

On Sunday, Dec. 3, at their last in-person concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City, the band—which currently consists of Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer—passed the baton to a completely virtual version of themselves, debuting their avatar versions with a performance of "Rock and Roll All Nite."

KISS also posted about the news on social media, sharing photos of the band members wearing video motion capture technology while creating the avatars, with the caption reading, "@kissonline has been immortalized and reborn as avatars to rock forever!"

Around the same time, KISS shared a trailer of sorts for the virtual group, inviting fans to head to kissonline.com for more information.

The virtual KISS came to be with the help of Pophouse. The company also created the virtual version of ABBA that is currently on tour for ABBA Voyage, with Variety reporting that over 1 million tickets have been sold.

Now, KISS is joining in, with Stanley saying in a press release from Pophouse, "What we’ve accomplished has been amazing, but it’s not enough. The band deserves to live on because the band is bigger than we are."

Simmons added, "We can be forever young and forever iconic by taking us to places we’ve never dreamed of before. The technology is going to make Paul jump higher than he’s ever done before.”

The response to the announcement on social media appeared mixed, with one fan commenting, "Embarrassing! Don’t ruin your legacy," as another said, "A new error begins."

But there were some positive fans, such as one who proclaimed, "Screw the haters! KISS is immortal!! Keep it up boys."

KISS' final concert in NYC is now available to watch on pay-per-view until the end of the year. There are no details yet on the virtual band's future.
