Kirsten Dunst Shares Rare Photo of Son

Tom Holland might want to watch his back. There's a new Spider-Man in town.

On Sunday, Kirsten Dunst shared a photo on Instagram of her 2-year-old son James carrying an umbrella modeled after the famous superhero's mask. The caption read, "Has no clue his mom was MJ."

This of course reference's Dunst's time in the Spider-Man franchise playing the original live-action Mary Jane Watson, alongside Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker.

While Dunst may have been the first Mary Jane, the role has since been handed off to Zendaya, who will presumably be back in the fourth MCU Spider-Man film with Holland, although there's been no official word yet as to when we're likely to see the film. The pair last starred in Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021, where they were joined by Maguire and fellow Spider-Man actor Andrew Garfield. Dunst, however, did not make an appearance, and the role of MJ was subbed out for Gwen Stacy in the Garfield timeline, with Emma Stone taking the alternative role.

Along with the MJ-referencing caption, Dunst also included the camera emoji and "Jesse," which is Instagram shorthand that gives photo credit to her husband Jesse Plemons. The pair met on the set of Fargo Season 2 and began dating back in 2016. They got engaged in 2017 and were married five years later in Jamaica, in 2022. While the pair often appear together on red carpets, especially during their press cycle for The Power of the Dog, for which they both earned their first Oscar nominations, they keep their children out of the limelight. The couple welcomed their first son, Ennis, in May 2018 and their second, James, in May 2021, but not much is known about the two children.

Plemons will be making his return to the big screen next month in Killers of the Flower Moon, while Dunst, who took time off post-pregnancy, can next be seen in the Alex Garland film Civil War, which will likely come out in 2024. There's been no word as to Dunst's return to the Spider-Man universe, but if any Marvel executives are reading this, BRING BACK DUNST AS MJ!
