ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit will be unable to fill his customary role on the network’s coverage of the NFL Draft this year.

Herbstreit revealed in a video on Twitter today that a blood clot was recently discovered in his system, which will prevent him from making the trip to Las Vegas this week.

“I’m very fortunate to have really good doctors who I trust. I feel good, but out of an abundance of caution, I think I’m going to take a step back from this year’s draft coverage,” Herbstreit said, adding that he looks forward to returning to draft analysis in 2023.

Herbstreit will be missed on ESPN/ABC’s draft broadcasts, as he provided an interesting perspective on prospects, having called many of their games in college.

What’s most important here though is that he gets healthy. We’re wishing Kirk a speedy and full recovery and hope he’ll be in the booth as usual for ESPN’s college football coverage this fall.

In the meantime, the 2022 NFL Draft will run from Thursday-Saturday this week in Las Vegas.
