Kings All-Star De’Aaron Fox nearing return from injury. Will he play against Cavaliers?

Kings point guard De’Aaron Fox returned to practice Sunday and could be on the verge of returning to the lineup after missing the past five games due to injury.

Fox was a full participant in Sunday’s practice as the Kings prepared to conclude a three-game homestand against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday at Golden 1 Center. Fox was listed as doubtful Sunday evening when the Kings submitted their official injury report to the league office, but his status for Monday’s game could be a game-time decision.

Kings coach Mike Brown said Fox moved well and looked comfortable in practice.

“He looked good,” Brown said. “No timetable on that. We’ll see how he feels today. We’ll see how he feels tomorrow, so no timetable, but he looked good today.”

Fox was seen sporting a black practice jersey along with the team’s other usual starters. Kings center Domantas Sabonis said it was good to see Fox back on the court.

“He looks great,” Sabonis said. “I mean Fox is Fox. He looks great. Hopefully after today he doesn’t feel sore tomorrow and he feels good, and we can see how it goes from there, but we were just happy we could be on the court with each other.”

Fox has been out since suffering a right ankle sprain in an overtime win against the Los Angeles Lakers on Oct. 29. The injury was initially described as a moderate sprain with one report suggesting Fox could return six days later when the Kings visited the Houston Rockets, but it has lingered for two weeks.

Fox was a first-time All-Star and All-NBA Third Team selection last season after helping the Kings win 48 games to secure the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference, ending the franchise’s 16-year playoff drought. He was sensational in Sacramento’s first three games this season, averaging 31.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 1.3 steals while shooting 48.6% from the field, 37.5% from 3-point range and 81% at the free-throw line.
