If you’re beyond the age of trick-or-treat, yet your bones ache to groove to something sweet, “Death by Disco Halloween Party” just may be for you.

This Saturday, Oct. 28, Kimpton Brice Hotel hosts its first-ever silent, Halloween-themed dance celebration in the newly opened Secret Garden. The party kicks off at 8 p.m. with DJ Banjo mixing tunes out loud in the courtyard until 10 p.m. Then, the fun doubles until midnight when DJ Nicky Nice joins, and the party goes silent. Revelers don headphones for two more hours of bone-shaking dance hits. The evening is aimed at the 21+ crowd, with tickets starting at $25.

Though costumes aren’t required, they’re encouraged, according to Jason Gifford, the hotel’s general manager. He’s excited about what the spooky-themed event has to offer.

“I’d seen something like this before, a silent dance party, and I really wanted to try that at Kimpton Brice,” said Gifford. “The team and I jumped on it for Halloween when locals and visitors are especially looking for different things to do in the city. A costume isn’t necessary to attend, but dressing up can only add to the fun, I think. And since we are a hotel, the concept is perfect. At 10 p.m. when some people want to sleep, the event becomes silent, but the party continues.”

Will you be having an 'Eerie Fog' or a 'Spirits in the Night?'

Party-goers looking to fuel up before a thrilling night on the dancefloor can opt for VIP tickets, which include a complementary cocktail and three-course dinner from Pacci, the hotel’s signature coastal Italian restaurant. Also on hand are three signature drinks created just for the occasion. The “Eerie Fog,” a pomegranate martini, features Belvedere vodka, while Botanist gin-laden “Spirits in the Night” highlights a fresh blackberry mixture, and “Cast a Spell on You” showcases Laws rye whiskey with lemon.

For Jonah Boucher, also known as DJ Banjo, the night promises to be magical. Originally from Aiken, South Carolina, Boucher got his start DJ-ing a couple years ago in and around Augusta and Athens. Now, he spins full time for clubs throughout the Southeast. An accomplished guitarist and banjo player, Boucher survived a near-death motorcycle collision last year, significantly diminishing his playing on stringed instruments.

He considers being a DJ a positive way to keep him close to live music, a way to keep him entertaining people looking to have a good time.

“I’ve learned DJ-ing is a mix of preparation and understanding the art of how music blends together,” said Boucher. “For this party, I’m mixing classic Halloween tracks in a mashup of songs, then re-mixing Halloween-type lyrics over disco beats. It’s going to be fun. Music is just magic, and I’m grateful to still be involved and part of the party as a DJ. Plus, it’s always nice working with a venue hosting people specifically down to groove.”

When DJ Nicky Nice joins the fray at 10 p.m., and the party goes silent, that’s when it really gets started. In their headphones, partygoers can switch back and forth between the DJs, which according to Gifford makes for a particularly unique experience.

“With two DJs playing, and people choosing between them, it’s fun to watch people dancing,” said Gifford. “You can see how they’re dancing to two completely different beats. It makes for an interesting dance floor scene, and it really should be a fun night. Since the Secret Garden holds a limited capacity of 100 people, we anticipate selling out. People should grab tickets soon.”
