Kim Kardashian Faces Intense Fan Backlash for New Balenciaga Campaign

Kim Kardashian

Just over a year after an intense wave of backlash against Balenciaga, Kim Kardashian has proudly announced she's the latest ambassador for the luxury fashion brand—and fans aren't happy.

The reality star shared the news on her Instagram Story on Monday, Jan. 22, linking out to the fashion brand's website with more information about her appointment.

"For several years now, Balenciaga’s designs have been a part of my many looks – and some of my most iconic fashion moments," she said in a statement. "This historic fashion house embraces modernity, craftsmanship and takes an innovative approach to design under Demna. For me, this long-standing relationship is built on mutual trust and a commitment to doing what’s right. I’m excited about this next chapter for the brand and to become their ambassador.”

The SKIMS founder may have forgotten all about the massive scandal, but her fans sure haven't. In case you need a refresher, the label faced a PR nightmare toward the end of 2022, when an ad campaign featured children cuddling teddy bears dressed in bondage gear and posed next to empty wine glasses.

Balenciaga pulled the images from social media following the response, but Kardashian, who was a known supporter of the brand, refused to cut ties—although she did "denounce" the ad.

Now that she's the face of their latest campaign, fans are raising their concerns again, with one replying, "No integrity. No morals. Stand for nothing. How it went from denoucing [sic] the brand, relinquishing your involvement to now being the brand ambassador."

"Shameful," another wrote with a nauseous emoji.

Someone else accused her of "working with problematic brands for attention and money," with a number of others agreeing that she'd do "anything for money and a higher net worth."

It's not even the first scandal involving Kardashian this week, let alone this year, as fans came after her just days ago over a tanning bed placed in her corporate offices, which she quickly defended.

No words in defense of Balenciaga yet, but we'll keep you posted.
