History has been made at the 2024 Golden Globes.

On Sunday, Jan. 7, actress Lily Gladstone took home the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture (Drama) for her work opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon.

"I love everyone in this room right now," Gladstone noted as she took the stage at the the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif. "I don't have words."

While winning a Golden Globe is a momentous moment for any performer, Gladstone's win is particularly important, as she is the first Indigenous winner in the category. "I just spoke a bit of Blackfeet language, the beautiful community nation that raised me that encouraged me to keep going," she said, before adding later on, "This is a historic win. It doesn't belong to just me. I'm holding it right now. I'm holding with all my beautiful sisters in the film."

In fact, her nomination was even historic, since she was the first Indigenous nominee for this particular category. (For the record, Irene Bedard was the first Indigenous person to nab a performer nomination in 1994 for her work in the TV film Lakota Woman: Siege at Wounded Knee.)

After being nominated back in December, Gladstone shared in a statement, “I am deeply moved that the Golden Globes is recognizing our film and the Osage heart behind it. We could never have brought this story to life without the personal contributions of the Osage Nation, and I’ll be forever grateful to them and every member of the cast and crew. These nominations shine a light on the memory of Mollie Burkhart and all the Osage women and men who lived and died during the Reign of Terror. They are the emotional core of Killers of the Flower Moon, and we honor them."

Gladstone was nominated in this category alongside Maestro's Carey MulliganAnatomy of a Fall's Sandra Hüller, Nyad's Annette BeningPast LivesGreta Lee and Priscilla's Cailee Spaeny.
