Kiefer Sutherland and Designated Survivor Co-Stars Gather to Say Goodbye to Adan Canto
Adan Canto’s Designated Survivor castmates gathered recently to remember the actor, who died on Jan. 8 at age 42.
“We all came to say goodbye 💔,” Maggie Q posted to Instagram Saturday alongside a photo of her with fellow Designated Survivor alumni including Kiefer Sutherland, LaMonica Garrett, Italia Ricci and Kal Penn. The group stood under a theater marquee that read, “In loving memory of Joseph Adan Canto 1981-2024.”
Series creator David Guggenheim, as well as costume designer Nancy Gould, also are in the shot.
Per Canto’s obituary, a funeral service was held Friday at Surf Ballroom & Museum in Clear Lake, Iowa.
Canto died after a nearly four-year illness with appendiceal cancer. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Canto, and their children, Roman and Eve.
He played vice president-elect Aaron Shore on the ABC-turned-Netflix thriller Designated Survivor. Soon after Canto’s passing, Sutherland praised his former co-star on Instagram, saying: “He was such a wonderful spirit. As an actor, his desire to do well, to be great, and then do better was truly impressive and he will be greatly missed. I am also heartbroken for his wife, Steph and his two young children. Adan, may you rest in peace.”

He most recently portrayed gangster Arman Morales on Fox’s The Cleaning Lady. Though his illness made it impossible for him to be present at the start of filming the current season, he reportedly was expected to rejoin the series later in the season.
