KFC fan-favorite with ‘double the chaos’ is finally returning to menu. Here’s when

A KFC sandwich “with a cult following,” according to the fast-food giant, that hasn’t been seen in nearly a decade will return for a limited time.

The KFC Double Down Sandwich will be available at participating restaurants nationwide starting Monday, March 6, the Kentucky-based chicken chain announced in a news release.

The bun-less entree first appeared on KFC menus in 2010 and features two “extra crispy, 100 percent white meat filets, two slices of cheese and two pieces of hickory-smoked bacon” topped with mayo or spicy sauce, according to a product description.

After a 10-year hiatus, KFC customers can again order the Double Down sandwich for a limited time starting March 6.
After a 10-year hiatus, KFC customers can again order the Double Down sandwich for a limited time starting March 6.

The sandwich was a hit among fried chicken fans, prompting KFC to bring it back in 2014, the restaurant said. Others had hang-ups about the Double Down’s nutritional value: a whopping “540 calories, 32 grams of fat, 150 milligrams of cholesterol and 1,380 milligrams of sodium,” a 2010 report by The Los Angeles Times states.

This time around, customers have a month to get their hands on the iconic sandwich before it flies off menus again.

“The Double Down is one of the most buzzworthy fast food menu items ever,” Nick Chavez, chief marketing officer for KFC U.S., said in a statement. “After nearly a decade of people begging for its return, we’re embracing the chaos ... for just four weeks.”

Pricing will vary by location, according to the release.

News of the Double Down’s return sparked varied reactions online.

KFC to launch new sandwich

For those who prefer their sandwich on a bun, KFC will debut the Bacon & Cheese Chicken Sandwich.

The new offering features a double breaded white meat chicken filet, a cheese slice, two pieces of Hickory-smoked bacon, mayo and pickles on a toasted brioche bun, according to the restaurant. It’s also available for a limited time starting March 6.

The sandwiches are just the latest shake up to KFC’s menu. In February, the chain announced plans to ditch a few fan-favorite items for a more simple ordering experience, McClatchy News reported.

The restaurant also recently introduced a revamped version of its classic chicken wraps last month.
