Kevin Spacey denies accusations of 'illegal' behavior ahead of documentary featuring 9 new victims accusing him of sexual harassment

Kevin Spacey has addressed new allegations of sexual assault brought to light in a documentary set to air in the UK.

"Spacey Unmasked" features testimonies from 10 men — nine of whom had not previously come forward with their stories — who have accused the Hollywood actor of inappropriate behavior, including sexual harassment on the set of "House of Cards" to masturbating in a movie theater during a showing of "Saving Private Ryan," according to Rolling Stone.

The two-part documentary will air on the consecutive nights of May 6 and 7 on the British broadcaster Channel 4. It will also be available to stream on Max following an acquisition by ID Network, according to IndieWire, although the date for that has not yet been announced.

In a 98-minute interview with British journalist Dan Wootton, posted to X on Friday, Spacey commented on the claims made in the documentary.

The 64-year-old actor said that he takes "full responsibility" for his past behavior and actions, which he characterized as "promiscuous" and "flirty," but denied the majority of the new allegations.

"I cannot and will not take responsibility or apologize to anyone who's made up stuff about me or exaggerated stories about me," the two-time Academy Award winner said.

Spacey admitted that he had made "clumsy passes" at people in the past and suggested that some new accusations of inappropriate behavior may have arisen from misunderstandings.

"Were there times when I would flirt with some of the people who were involved in those programs who were in their 20s? Yes," he said. "Did I ever hook up with another actor? Yes. Did I make a clumsy pass at someone who wasn't interested as it turned out? Yes."

He added: "That may not have been the best decision and it's not one that I would do today. But it happened. It wasn't illegal, and nor has it ever been alleged to have been illegal."

Addressing one of the claims that he acted inappropriately after requesting a massage from an intern during the filming of 1999's "The Big Kahuna," Spacey appeared to confirm some of the allegations, stating: "Well, I have to say that this guy's story strikes me much more in keeping with something that I might have done."

"So yeah, I can accept the possibility of this so far," he added.

For others, including claims by actors Ruari Cannon and Danny De Lillo, who have waived their anonymity to give interviews about their experiences with Spacey to publications this weekend, Spacey denied any wrongdoing.

De Lillo, who spoke to the British newspaper The Telegraph, has claimed that he was subjected to unwanted sexual behavior from Spacey during a performance at London's Old Vic theatre in 2007.

Cannon said in a piece for the i that the actor intimately touched him without consent in 2013 while at a press party for a production at the same theatre.

A representative for Spacey did not respond to a request for comment from Business Insider sent outside regular working hours.

Allegations against Spacey first arose after the #MeToo movement in 2017. In 2022, a New York jury sided with Spacey in a trial over sexual abuse allegations made by actor Anthony Rapp, who alleged the actor inappropriately touched him at a party in 1986 when he was aged 14.

The following year, a London court found Spacey not guilty on nine charges, including sexual assault, which were alleged to have been committed between 2001 and 2013 against four men.
