With the 2021-22 NBA season just around the corner and Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving showing no signs of wanting to get vaccinated – risking games in the process – his teammate Kevin Durant is fielding the questions instead.

This week Durant was asked if he was concerned at all about Kyrie’s vaccination status ahead of the NBA season. Durant’s one-word reply to the question was, “No.”

Durant then elaborated, saying that he respects Kyrie’s decision. But he also expects to have the entire team together at some point.

“It’s on Kyrie. That’s his personal decision.” Durant said. He later added, “I expect us to have our whole team at some point.”

That may be easier said than done if some people don’t soften their stance on vaccines though.

New York City currently has a vaccine mandate for attending large events such as basketball games at the Barclays Center and Madison Square Garden. Kyrie Irving is not allowed to participate in home games so long as he remains unvaccinated.

Judging by some of Kyrie’s past behavior though, that idea doesn’t seem likely to bother the seven-time All-Star.

The Brooklyn Nets are expected to be NBA title contenders this year. But getting that coveted No. 1 seed is going to be tough if they don’t have Kyrie for crucial home games.

Will Kyrie Irving maintain his vaccination stance, or will he bend in order to play?
