‘Kentucky waterfall’ is making waves in a national mullet contest. Here’s how to vote

Do you or your child have a thousand-dollar mullet?

More than 20 Kentucky residents have submitted to compete in the USA Mullet Championships, competition staff said in a Facebook message to the Herald-Leader.

One Kentucky teen was in second place in the contest as of Tuesday.

The USA Mullet Championships has a division for children and teens, a “Femullet” competition and the “Mane Event.” Voting is currently open for the children and teens division, and you can vote by liking or reacting to Facebook posts.

In a July 18 post, USA Mullet Championship said 689 children and teens submitted mullet photos to be considered for the 2022 contest. Round one voting is open, and round two will begin Friday.

After round two, the top 25 contestants will compete in the contest’s final portion. This season’s winner of “Best Kids Mullet in America” will receive a $2,500 prize, while the teen division winner will get $1,000.

Contestants are not allowed to wear wigs or hair extensions.

One of USA Mullet Championships’ featured mullet styles is the “Kentucky waterfall,” which incorporates side burns to the iconic look.

Lex 18 News reported Frankfort resident Josh Scott, 16, was in second place with his Kentucky waterfall as of Tuesday.

In 2021’s adult men’s division, Kentucky resident Big Scott Collard scored a 10th place finish.

He’s not the only Kentucky resident honored by the USA Mullet Championships either. The “Mullet Hall of Fame” recognizes Billy Ray Cyrus for his famous Kentucky waterfall.

Registration has not yet opened for 2022’s adult divisions, and fee information is not yet available online.

For the children’s division, registration costs $10, and the USA Mullet Championships’ website says half of each entry fee is donated to Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids of Michigan, a nonprofit providing wigs to children with hair loss.
