Kentucky student dies of ‘presumed’ alcohol poisoning after being found unconscious at frat

A University of Kentucky student died Monday shortly after he was found unresponsive inside a frat house.

Campus police were called to the FarmHouse Fraternity at 6:22 p.m after the student lost consciousness, the school said.

The student, was taken to a hospital on the campus were he was pronounced dead.

He was latered identified by the the Fayette County Coroner as Thomas “Loston” Hazelwood, 18. The coroner’s office said the cause of death was “presumed alcohol toxicity.”

“Foul play is not suspected, but police are investigating the circumstances of his death,” the school said.

FarmHouse is one of many national fraternities on the campus.

“We are saddened to share the passing of a University of Kentucky new member of FarmHouse Fraternity,” the organization said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, chapter members and the entire community.”

“We have encouraged all members to cooperate with the investigation. We will provide additional information as it becomes available.”

The incident is the latest in a string of alcohol-related deaths on college campuses. In April, seven members of a fraternity at Bowling Green University in Ohio were hit with charges related to the death of 20-year-old sophomore Stone Foltz.
