Kentucky football coaches name district players, coaches of the year for 2022
The Kentucky Football Coaches Association on Wednesday announced its district players and coaches of the year, according to a vote of its membership.
From Lexington, Frederick Douglass’s Ty Bryant, Bryan Station’s JT Haskins Jr., Paul Laurence Dunbar’s Cole Colony, Lexington Catholic’s Max DeGraff and Lexington Christian’s Cutter Boley were all recognized as their respective district players of the year.
And each of those players’ coaches were also recognized as district coaches of the year: Douglass’s Nathan McPeek, Bryan Station’s Phillip Hawkins, Dunbar’s Wes Johnson, LexCath’s Bert Bathiany and LCA’s Doug Charles.
Bryant, a senior committed to Kentucky, was also recognized this week as the Louisville Quarterback Club’s Paul Hornung Award winner given to its pick for the state’s top high school player.
The KFCA district player and coach of the year honors are a precursor to its class-by-class player and coach of the year awards that are typically announced during the KHSAA’s state championship games where each district honoree will receive his award. The KFCA also recognized milestone victories and undefeated records this season.
Later this year, the KFCA will recognize a Mr. Football and state coach of the year. The KFCA’s Mr. Football, awarded since 2018, is separate from the longer-standing Mr. Football honor awarded by The Associated Press.
