Kentucky football’s summer recruiting momentum continued Monday with a commitment from four-star Georgia prep linebacker Grant Godfrey.

Godfrey, the son of former NFL linebacker Randall Godfrey, picked the Wildcats over reported scholarship offers from Tennessee, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Missouri, Louisville and others.

The 247Sports Composite, which averages the ratings of the major recruiting sites, ranks Godfrey as the No. 33 prospect in the Georgia high school class of 2023 and the No. 26 linebacker recruit in the country.

The commitment is Mark Stoops’ seventh addition to Kentucky’s 2023 class since the beginning of July.

Godfrey is the third consensus four-star prospect to join the class in the last month. He is the third-highest rated commitment in the class, according to the 247Sports Composite, behind Tennessee prep wide receiver Shamar Porter and Alabama prep defensive back Avery Stuart.

Godfrey, who was recruited to UK by defensive coordinator Brad White and defensive backs coach Chris Collins, is the first pledge in the class from Georgia, where UK signed six players in the previous two classes combined.

Following the commitment, Kentucky’s class moved up to No. 37 nationally and eighth in the Southeastern Conference in the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Randall Godfrey starred at the University of Georgia before being picked in the second round of the 1996 NFL Draft. He played in the NFL from 1996 to 2007 with Dallas, Tennessee, Seattle, San Diego and Washington. Georgia has yet to offer a scholarship to Grant.

Godfrey’s older brother, RJ, is a freshman on the Clemson basketball team.
