Kentucky auditor: Allison Ball claims victory over Kim Reeder

Republican Allison Ball is set to move into a new state office after claiming victory over Democrat Kim Reeder in Kentucky's auditor race.

Ball, 42, of Prestonsburg, has been the state's treasurer for two terms, making her ineligible for that office again.

Ball gave brief victory remarks at the Louisville Marriott Downtown Tuesday night.

“I am so proud to be the next auditor of Kentucky, I am proud to represent you and be a watchdog of taxpayer dollars,” she said. “It has been a tremendous honor to serve you as treasurer. I’ve gotten to learn a few things in that role and I am ready to go to do the job as auditor, protect against waste, fraud and abuse and be there for you and do the job the way it’s supposed to be done.”

She told The Courier Journal that experience would help her as auditor, whose office is responsible for auditing various entities receiving public dollars and checking their finances and procedures.

Her priority would be fighting waste, fraud and abuse, she said.

"I have protected taxpayer dollars by ensuring Kentucky's expenditures are constitutional, legal and correct," Ball said. "I have stopped cyber-attacks, fraud and embezzlement. Additionally, I have served as prosecutor and during the years immediately preceding my service as treasurer, I practiced bankruptcy law."
