Tina Knowles defends Kelly Rowland after viral red carpet dispute: 'Living her best life'

Beyoncé's mother, Tina Knowles, is showing her support for Kelly Rowland.

On Thursday, May 23, Knowles shared a video of Rowland and Joe Jonas posing on the red carpet together after a video went viral earlier in the week of Rowland talking to a security guard at the 77th annual Cannes Film Festival.

She captioned the post, "And just like that, she @kellyrowland graces another carpet with her amazing glorious beauty, class and grace!!!! Sipping Champagne and living her best life❤️❤️❤️❤️This just goes to show that one silly monkey, don’t stop no-show!!! on to bigger and and better things❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥."

On May 21, Rowland made headlines when videos arose of her having a heated exchange with a female security guard at the Cannes Film Festival, which was held at the Palais des Festivals.

Rowland, who walked the “Marcello Mio” red carpet, was seen walking up the stairs by herself. While she ascended the staircase, a woman stood behind her and held out her arm near Rowland's back.

After looking down for a moment, Rowland turned around and began speaking to the security guard. During one of their exchanges, Rowland was seen pointing at the security guard.

In an interview with the Associated Press, shared on the outlet’s Instagram, Rowland says she “stood my ground."

“The woman knows what happened, I know what happened,” she told the AP at the 2024 amfAR Gala, another Cannes event, on May 23. “And I have a boundary. And I stand by those boundaries. And that is it.”

She added that “there were other women that attended that carpet who did not quite look like me and they didn’t get scolded or pushed off or told to get off.

“And I stood my ground and she felt like she had to stand hers,” she said. “But I stood my ground. And that was it.”

TODAY.com reached out to the Cannes Film Festival for comment but did not hear back.

The Cannes red carpets are known for their strict dress codes and timelines, Vogue reports, but it's unclear if those were the issues at hand in the exchange.
