Kelly Ripa has been thinking about leaving Live With Kelly and Ryan for sometime now.

Over the past year, the former actress has pursed different interests away from the ABC daytime TV show. In May, news broke that Kelly would be the solo host of a game show called Generation Gap. The revival premiered over the summer and it was around this time that Kelly also announced that she had written a memoir, Live Wire: Long-Winded Short Stories. Fast forward, Generation Gap has wrapped up season 1 and the book has officially hit shelves. But does this mean that Kelly will make more appearances on Live?

Folks have noticed her absence, and while Live co-host Ryan Seacrest has hinted at it, Kelly hadn’t addressed her possible departure — until now. Speaking with Extra, she opened up about saying goodbye to the show, and she didn’t hold back.

“Oh, gosh! I think about it all the time,” she told the outlet. “I've been quiet quitting for at least 10 years, maybe 15.”

ICYMI: Quiet quitting is a phrase that became popular on TikTok regarding the amount of effort that’s put into a job. Definitions may vary from person to person, but it generally means to meet job expectations and no longer going above and beyond. This includes setting more strict boundaries between work and personal life.

As for what Kelly imagines for the next chapter of Live, she’s thought about introducing viewers to a new person who would become Ryan's new co-host. What’s more, she specified when this change might happen.

“I do believe in shepherding in somebody new,” she revealed. “I would like to — in the not-too-distant future — see that somebody gets to ingratiate themselves into our audiences' life.”

While there is no timeline set for Kelly’s eventual leave from the show, she shared that she’s not the only one involved in the decision. “It’s like a long-term discussion, when everybody thinks the time is right, and it would be a universal decision — then that’s the time,” she concluded.

Although Live fans have been asking about Kelly’s whereabouts more often, it seems like she’s previously implied the shakeup. As fan know, she’s acted as a co-host since 2001, first with the late Regis Philbin and then with GMA star Michael Strahan before finding a permanent partner in Ryan.

“It’s not just about me,” she told Variety in October 2020. “It really is not. I don’t think I’m the show. I think the show is the show.”
