Kelly Clarkson's Ex Brandon Blackstock Pushes Back on Owing Her 'Millions'

Kelly Clarkson's ex-husband Brandon Blackstock is reportedly putting up a fight about a recent ruling requiring him to return over $2 million to the singer for fees he allegedly took out of her work during his time as her manager.

Blackstock, 46, who helped manage Clarkson, 41, through his family's company, Starstruck Management Group, for over a decade, is accused of unlawfully booking jobs for her, according to documents obtained by TMZ. Furthermore, Clarkson alleges Blackstock overcharged a commission on several of her projects, including her work on The Voice, Norwegian Cruise Line, the Billboard Music Awards and Wayfair.

As a result, a California labor commissioner ordered him to pay back $2,641,374—a ruling he is now reportedly appealing.

According to Today.com, Blackstock filed documents in a Los Angeles Superior Court on Nov. 30 to appeal the decision. He also requested a trial "de novo," meaning a judge would hear the entire case again as if it was being heard for the first time.

The American Idol alum and her team have accused Blackstock of unlawfully obtaining work for her when he served as her manager despite never being a legally certified talent agent.

Clarkson accuses him of procuring several contracts for the singer, which should have been handled by her talent agency, Creative Arts Agency (CAA.)

The California labor commissioner's ruling determined that Blackstock "unlawfully procured" Clarkson's jobs, citing the Talent Agencies Act (TAA), which states that "a manager, like any person without a talent agency license, cannot procure or attempt to procure employment for artists."

Clarkson settled her contentious divorce from Blackstock in 2022, previously agreeing to pay her ex a lump sum payment of $1.3 million in addition to monthly child support payments and monthly spousal support until Jan. 31, 2024.
