Kelly Clarkson Shuts Down Claim She Bashed Taylor Swift’s Travis Kelce Romance

Kelly Clarkson and Taylor Swift

After a slew of headlines accusing Kelly Clarkson of throwing shade at Taylor Swift's new romance with Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce, the talk show host is shutting those rumors down.

On a recent episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the "Lighthouse" singer expressed frustration with the amount of screen time the power couple are getting in the middle of each football game that Swift attends, noting that she just wants to see the game she tunes in for.

Some took the clear criticism directed at the NFL and its producers—which Kelce has even expressed himself—and turned it into a feud that just isn't there.

Now, Clarkson is clearing up any confusion. She posted what appeared to be a screenshot of a blank Instagram Story, using the app's features to make her statement. She opted not to compose a caption, letting the graphic speak for itself.

“Just a quick public service announcement everybody since this seems to be breaking news…" she began, before directing anyone looking not to "fall prey to clickbait [or] trash reporters twisting the facts again."

She continued, "I did not bash anyone’s romance. I am pro romance. Yay romance 👏 Did ya’ll even watch what I actually said on my show? I just said I want to watch football when I tune in to watch football. Seems an appropriate request. 💁🏼‍♀️"

During the Thursday, Oct. 19 episode of her show, Clarkson sat down with Saturday Night Live's Bowen Yang, where they chatted about the surprise cameos made by the couple the weekend prior. Clarkson pointed out, "It is hilarious how it is literally taking over the NFL for people [like me] who like watching sports."

To her, it feels like watching an episode of Real Housewives. "It's like you're watching gossip things. What about the [game] play? They're taking over!" Clarkson continued, according to OK! magazine.

She clearly recognizes that it's not the fault of the couple, though, so everyone can put their pitchforks away.
