Kelly Clarkson Makes Bold Statement About Cher's New Christmas Song

Kelly Clarkson wasn't afraid to express how she really feels about Cher's new Christmas song.

The American Idol alum, who invited the music legend on her talk show for the Friday, Dec. 15 episode, had no fear when making a bold statement about Cher's new holiday song, "DJ Play a Christmas Tune," which she believes is up there with some of the best contemporary Christmas music ever.

In a video of the two singers' conversation uploaded to The Kelly Clarkson Show YouTube channel, Clarkson, 41, began to share her bold stance on the song, while bracing the audience, "I'm gonna say it! Fight me on it!"

That's when she called Cher's new single "the greatest Christmas song to come out since 'All I Want For Christmas Is You'"—and we know that Mariah Carey holiday hit is a high standard to reach.

Clarkson—who also has some holiday hits of her own—went on to express her opinion, stating, "I love it so much, it makes me so happy."

"I'm not kidding, I've sent videos to my friends, like Blake Shelton and Nial [Horan]," she gushed. "I've hit them up so much with videos of me just singing your song."

While Cher, 77, didn't comment on where her new song stands compared to Carey's, the smile on her face made it seem like she was more than flattered to hear Clarkson's compliments.

But we'll have to see if Cher's song performs on the charts as well as Carey's Christmas classic has over the years. The catchy 1994 hit landed on the Billboard Hot 100 and even broken a few world records.

Carey's festive tune eventually hit No. 1 in 2019, 25 years after its initial release, but just this year, she got a run for her money when Brenda Lee's "Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree" began leading the charts this holiday season.
