Bonding over divorce? It's not a hot topic, but Kelly Clarkson invited The Chicks onto her Emmy-winning talk show and they soon became "divorce buddies."

As America's original idol, Kelly is known to keep things real on her talk show and after a public divorce with Brandon Blackstock, she got very candid about the sensitive topic. Years after filing, the former couple reportedly reached a massive final settlement where Kelly paid a lump sum of over $1 million, monthly child support, monthly spousal support, and was granted primary joint custody of their children.

On one of the latest episodes of The Kelly Clarkson Show, Kelly invited The Chicks to chat about their new album, Gaslighter, which was partially inspired by the group's divorces. "I guess from an artist's point of view, how hard is it, asking for a friend, while I'm currently writing through a similar situation is how hard is that to write so openly and so honest while navigating children," Kelly began asking.

Natalie Maines quickly responded by saying that she wanted their album to be very honest and blatant when it came to talking about past relationships and divorces.

Kelly later went on the ask the group how they've dealt with previous divorces. "Okay, so we all went through divorces. And how did you find strength? And not just music. I think it's therapeutic, but like your female friendships. I feel like that has really helped me," Kelly said.

They agreed and said they were able to bond over their marital troubles while recording their album. In fact, Natalie and Martie Maguire took a quick trip down memory lane by recalling the moment they both realized they were getting divorced at the same time. "I didn't know anybody close to me that was getting a divorce, so I was so happy for you," Martie joked. "I know. Wait, we were divorce buddies," Natalie replied.

Fans also appreciated the conversation. "Brave women," one person wrote on YouTube. "Wow, Kelly is really coming into her own as an interviewer," said another. "All divorced wow what a gift to all the singles out there," another joked.

Add this to yet another way in which Kelly has been candid about her marital struggles. When kicking off the second season of her talk show, the "Since U Been Gone" singer started by admitting to her fans that she'd had a couple rough months and said, "What I am dealing with is hard because it involves more than just my heart. It involves a lot of little hearts. We have four kids and divorce is never easy. We’re both from divorced families, so we know the best thing here is to protect our children and their little hearts."
