Keanu Reeves joins Sonic 3
John Wick star Keanu Reeves has joined the cast of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in the role of Shadow.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor will be voicing Shadow the Hedgehog, a character who first appeared in the SEGA video game franchise back in 2001.
Shadow's inclusion in the third Sonic film was confirmed in a post-credit scene for Sonic 2, with the scene giving viewers a very brief glimpse of the character inside a research facility on Prison Island.
The franchise teased the character once again in December last year, tweeting a first-look image of Shadow's showing his knuckles and feet standing next to a clapperboard.

"Off and RUNNING," the caption read. "Sonic Movie 3 only in theatres December 20, 2024".
Like Sonic, Shadow is also an anthropomorphic hedgehog, largely viewed by fans as the antithesis of Sonic due to their differing views on how to achieve their goals.
Reeves joins returning cast members Ben Schwartz, Colleen O'Shaughnessey and Idris Elba, who are reprising their roles as the voices of Sonic, Tails and Knuckles respectively.
Jim Carrey is confirmed to be returning as Dr Robotnik after previously announcing he was taking a break from acting after the premiere of Sonic 2 in 2022.
Also returning are James Marsden and Tika Sumpter as Sonic's 'parents' Tom and Maddie Wachowski, Lee Majdoub as Agent Stone and Adam Pally as Green Hills deputy sheriff Wade Whipple.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is currently set to be released just in time for Christmas, premiering in cinemas this December.
Production began on the third movie back in August 2023, with live-action filming commencing that November after the conclusion of the Hollywood strikes.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be released in cinemas on December 20, 2024.
