Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. wasn’t born when the pop culture classic “Space Jam” was released in movie theaters.

However, he just might have stumbled upon his own variation of the iconic “Michael’s Secret Stuff” water bottle.

Before Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays, Witt told Royals teammate Drew Waters that he sprayed on some Tommy Bahama cologne.

It was the dark blue bottle of the popular scent. Not only did the cologne add a fresh aroma, but it may have held some superstitious powers.

“He said the last time he did it, he hit a home run,” Waters recalled of the conversation.

Witt has starred in recent weeks. He is currently riding a six-game streak with at least one extra-base hit. He also has homered on consecutive days. In the fifth inning, Witt hit his 16th home run of the season.

Waters was impressed with the production. So, he decided to try out the cologne himself.

“Before the game, I made sure to put on the dark blue bottle of Tommy Bahama cologne.” Waters said.

The cologne powers struck again. Waters hit a 465-foot home run into the fountains at Kauffman Stadium. He also added a triple against Rays starter Zach Elfin.

The blast shocked the entire Royals dugout. Waters even walked up to Royals manager Matt Quatraro and displayed his youthful exuberance.

“I kind of went up to (Quatraro) and I flexed. I said, ‘Lets go!.’’’ Waters said. “He kind of laughed and gave me a smile.”

Waters and Witt propelled the Royals to a 8-4 victory over the Rays. They combined to go 4 for 8 with two homers, two triples and five RBIs.

The duo became the first pair of Royals teammates to belt a home run and triple in the same game. They are also the lone MLB teammates to do so this season.

“Any time you are able to do that, it’s always awesome,” Witt said. “Whenever they told us that, it was pretty cool just to hear.”

The Royals are counting on Waters and Witt during their organizational rebuild. Each member of the young duo has the potential to be a franchise cornerstone.

Witt is showcasing his power potential in recent games. He is currently on pace for 27 home runs and 46 steals this season.

If he can reach 30 homers and 30 steals, he would become the first full-time Royal to achieve the career milestone.

Former Royals star Carlos Beltran produced a 30-30 season in 2004 but was traded mid-season to the Houston Astros.

Waters hit the Royals third-longest home run in the Statcast era. The 112.2 mph exit velocity was the highest on any batted ball of his career.

“It’s really cool to watch,” Quatraro said of Witt’s power display. “Not only because he is performing for himself, but the way he has continually gotten better as the year has gone on. It’s a tough thing to raise your numbers with 300-plus plate appearances.”

Quatraro loves that Waters is playing with renewed confidence. As a result, Waters said he might just be using more of that Tommy Bahama cologne.

“It didn’t hit me to tell him until after he hit his home run,” Waters said. … “I was like, ‘hey, smell my shirt.’ We got a good laugh out of that.”
