After the Chiefs’ 2023 schedule was officially released on Thursday night, coach Andy Reid joined ESPN and the NFL Network.

On the NFL Network, Reid was asked about opening with the Lions.

“I like the schedule,” Reid said. “We’ve got to play them somewhere and sometime. We start off with Detroit, and Detroit is a heck of a football team and they showed that at the end of the season how they’ve grown, and that’s great competition there.”

On ESPN, Reid was asked about the Bengals rematch and Mina Kimes noted how well the defense played in the AFC Championship Game.

Kimes asked for Reid’s thoughts on the defense going into this season under coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.

“Yeah, the back end was young, and our linebacking corps, that was really the first time that they had really started a whole season, so I thought they improved every week,” Reid said. “I think going into this offseason, things have been a lot smoother, picking things up. They’ve been able to build on some things there. And Spags always has some ideas, you know, obviously, but he’s been able to go ahead and take it to another level there with the guys and they seem receptive.”

Here are other comments Reid made about teams the Chiefs will face in 2023.

Lions (Kickoff Game on Sept. 7)

“Well, first of all, their offense is really good too,” Reid said on ESPN. “So I don’t want a slight part of it. But their defense, they’re gritty and fast. We’ll have to be on our A game. We signed a couple of tackles here that we think are pretty good. It’ll be a good test for them.”

Dolphins (in Germany on Nov. 5)

Reid told ESPN about facing Miami’s Tyreek Hill: “Yeah, he’s a heck of a football player. They’re well-coached and really played well but look forward to going to Germany.”

Eagles (MNF on Nov. 20)

“They’re a good football team, great organization,” Reid said on ESPN of the Super Bowl LVII rematch. “As you know, I’m close with a lot of the people there and so they’ve got a heck of an organization. Great city and great players, so it should be another knockdown drag-out battle.”

Raiders (Christmas Day)

“That’s unique especially because it’s a Monday game at noon,” Reid said on the NFL Network. “That’s unusual, and on top of it, it’s the Raiders. I’m sure they’re saying the same thing. Could you have picked a better rivalry than those two teams? We both love playing each other. It doesn’t matter what our records are. we play each other close, and it’s always a knockdown drag out fight there.”
