Kansas City is bolstering its defensive line with a local product.

The Chiefs are signing former Kansas Jayhawks defensive end Azur Kamara, two sources familiar with the situation confirmed Tuesday afternoon with The Star. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 6-foot-4, 235-pound Kamara entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2020 with the Dallas Cowboys, where he spent two seasons. He appeared in nine games for Dallas in 2021 and recorded three tackles before being waived in December.

Kamara then joined the Carolina Panthers in late December 2021 but was waived in May 2022.

For the Chiefs, Kamara projects to provide depth at the pass rusher position through training camp and preseason games. He’ll compete for a roster spot against defensive ends Frank Clark, 2022 first-round pick George Karlaftis, Joshua Kaindoh, Mike Danna, Austin Edwards and Malik Herring.

The Chiefs’ first full team practice of training camp is scheduled for Wednesday morning at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph.

The NFL Network first reported the news of Kamara’s signing.
