Katy Perry Doesn't Want to Sing 'Wide Awake' Again After Kelly Clarkson's Cover of Her Song

Katy Perry is in awe of Kelly Clarkson.

The "Roar" singer took to Instagram to respond to Clarkson -- who covered Perry's 2012 hit, "Wide Awake," during an episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Clarkson, known for her powerhouse vocals, showcased her talent once again by delivering a captivating rendition of Perry's track as part of her regular segment on the show "Kellyoke." Posting a clip of her performance on Instagram, Clarkson ignited a wave of reactions, including one from Perry herself.

"Ok dang I can never sing that again," Perry commented on Clarkson's post.

This cover comes amidst Perry's recent foray into 2000s nostalgia, marked by her fashion statement at Billboard's Women in Music celebration. Perry made heads turn at the event with her crimson corset ensemble by designer Ellie Misner. Sporting an exposed thong and special-effects body art featuring a butterfly design, Perry effortlessly brought back the Y2K vibes.

Keeping the nostalgia train rolling, Perry shared her attire from the event in a slideshow posted to Instagram March 7, quoting lyrics from Crazy Town's 1999 hit, "Butterfly," in the caption. "You're my butterfly, sugar, baby," she wrote, further fueling the throwback atmosphere.

The singer and long-time American Idol judge sat down with Jimmy Kimmel last month for Jimmy Kimmel Live, where she came out to promote the forthcoming 22nd season of the reality singing competition.

However, she admitted during their conversation that season 22 will be her last with the show.

"This fall, in September, I'm going to be doing this huge music festival in Brazil called Rock in Rio... so I think this will probably be my last season for Idol," Perry said, leaving the audience shocked.

"I mean, I love Idol so much," she added, "It's connected me with the heart of America, but I need to feel that pulse of my own beat."

Perry joined American Idol in season 16, back in March 2018, when the show was revived on ABC after previously completing a 15-season run on Fox.

Perry has been part of the judges panel alongside fellow judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie since the revival kicked off.
