Katie Holmes stepped out in a chic, minimalist look last night in NYC.

The Dawson's Creek alum attended jeweler Mikimoto's 130th anniversary party, where she wore a cool look in her signature effortless style. The star stayed warm in a sleek leather coat with oversized cuffs, which she layered over a white midi-length shirt dress featuring a crochet embellishment on the side.

She completed the ensemble with a pair of slouchy black leather boots and a long silver necklace with oversized pearls, while carrying a small white tote with silver handles. Her hair was styled in loose waves, and her natural glam look included a mauve pink lip.

Earlier this month, the Rare Objects director stepped out in a fun update on the big pants trend. The high-waist, wide-leg R13 trousers were covered all over with shimmering gold sequins and what appeared to be bleached paint splatters on a military green background. She cinched the statement pants at her waist with a mustard-green belt.

The actor also wore a ribbed knit sweater in a slate-gray hue, which featured a V-neck, a collar, and billowing sleeves. She finished the look with glittering yellow sandals, a black studded Isabel Marant purse, and bulbous gold drop earrings from By Pariah.

Holmes previously spoke to BAZAAR.com about how directing Rare Objects has shaped her own personal fashion philosophy. "I directed two films back-to-back this year, and I did the costumes as well, which made me appreciate my friends who are costume designers and all the costume designers I've worked with in the past," she said. "It made me appreciate silhouettes and cuts and color in a way I thought I had, but when you put it on camera, when you are trying to tell a story, you can see how clothing can do a lot of the work for you."

She added, "We live in a world where we have a premiere and you want to look nice, and it turns into being a fashion person, and I'm like, 'Well, I just like to look nice, I'm not really a fashion person.' We all just want to look good."
