Katie Holmes’s Ballet Flat Game Is Unmatched

Katie Holmes keeps is simple with her style, favoring neutrals over loud hues and tailored basics over busy, dramatic silhouettes. Still, again and again the actor proves to us that minimalism doesn’t have to be boring.

She reiterated that lesson just that this week, when she stepped out for a day in New York City in a quiet look that just worked. The ’fit was composed of a tan ribbed knit wool cardigan layered over a classic white T-shirt and paired with blue barrel jeans that cropped just above her ankles. The collared cardigan was from Reformation, and had round golden buttons and ample side pockets. The jeans, meanwhile, ballooned at the knees only to cinch back up at the bottom—a controversial denim style that Holmes pulled off without a thought.

Finally, the pièce de résistance: Holmes’s ballet flats. For the springtime walk, the Rare Objects director chose a pair of Mary Jane flats in a dreamy powder-blue tone. The nappa leather shoes from ATP had a rounded pointed toe and a delicate strap that rested on top of the actor’s foot.

Holmes also carried a slouchy merlot-red hobo bag by Mansur Gavriel and wore large black sunglasses.

Holmes wore a similar pair of flats—which we still think about daily—back in 2022: a pretty cornflower blue style adorned with a tiny bow on the front, by Yuni Buffa. Then, she styled the shoes with a light blue short-sleeved button-up, classic dark-wash straight-leg jeans from A.P.C., and another merlot-colored bag.

More recently, the actor was seen wearing a glittering black ballet flats by Miu Miu, and, on another occasion, funky Acne Studios Bladie loafers.
