Katie Couric Becomes a Grandma After Daughter Ellie Welcomes First Child: 'We Feel So Blessed'
Katie Couric is a grandma!
On Sunday, the television anchor shared the news that her daughter, Ellie Monahan, welcomed a baby boy with her husband, Mark Dobrosky, making her a grandmother for the first time.
"John Albert Dobrosky was born on his due date, Saturday, March 23rd at 8:23 am, just shy of seven pounds. He will be called Jay in honor of his maternal grandfather," the 67-year-old journalist wrote.
Couric was married to attorney Jay Monahan from 1989 until his 1998 death at the age of 42 from colon cancer. Their daughters, Ellie and Caroline Monahan, were 7 and 2, respectively, at the time of his death.
In her post, Couric explained that her grandson's middle name honors her son-in-law's grandfather, Albert, and that mom, dad and baby are happy and healthy.
"Mom and Dad (Ellie and Mark) are over the moon 🌕 (it was a full moon)," she wrote.
She adds, "I am thrilled to have my first grandchild, Carrie can’t wait to be a cool Aunt and Molner is enjoying handing out cigars. We feel so blessed. 💙🥰🍼👶🏻💙 We'll have more tomorrow in Wake-Up Call ⏰❤️."
The news of baby Jay's arrival comes three months after the proud new grandma announced that her eldest daughter had a bun in the oven, using her Instagram page to share a video of her daughter giving her a friendship bracelet with "granny to be" on it.
"Been dying to tell you. This is what happens when you go to a @taylorswift concert last summer and forget your friendship bracelet and your daughters say, 'Don't worry, we made one for you!' #omg#omg#omg#omg#needmy🤓," she wrote at the time.
"Granny to be," Couric attempted to say before Ellie blurted out to her shocked mom, "I'm pregnant!"
Ellie -- a writer and director who has worked on shows like The Boys and Mr. Robot -- met her husband on campus at Yale in 2010, according to Vogue. After several years of dating (and a pandemic-delayed wedding), the couple tied the knot in a gorgeous ceremony at a New York cabin in July 2021.
