Kathy Griffin accuses Trump staffers of planting negative stories in the National Enquirer

Comedian Kathy Griffin, an outspoken critic of the Trump administration, has accused White House staffers of “planting stories” about her in the National Enquirer.

Griffin shared a screenshot to Twitter Wednesday, ostensibly from a National Enquirer reporter requesting comment from someone for an article about her selling her $15 million “dream home” “after her bookings slowed down this summer and she needs to raise cash.”

“Sources say one of the reasons she isn’t getting any bookings is because her outrageous behavior has got (sic) her blacklisted from most TV shows and networks in Hollywood," the message reads.

The message included a deadline of Wednesday at 5 p.m. ET to respond with a statement, and contact information, including that of National Enquirer Editor-in-Chief Dan Dolan.

“Ps. My house is $16MM,” the comedian tweeted of the 13,000-square-foot Bel Air mansion with eight bedrooms and 12 bathrooms.

Griffin has faced right-wing criticism since 2017, when she posed for a photo with a fake severed head of President Trump, but she did not provide any explanation or evidence Wednesday after accusing staffers of planting stories.

Neither a spokesperson for the comedian nor a spokesperson for the National Enquirer immediately returned a request for comment.
