Katharine McPhee, 36, and husband David Foster, 70, expecting first child together

It’s smashing news for Katharine McPhee.

The “American Idol” contestant-turned “Smash” star and her husband David Foster are expecting their first child together, sources told People on Thursday.

McPhee, 36, and the Canadian musician, 70, married in London in June of 2019. They first met on the set of “Idol” in 2006, during season five of the singing competition show, where the Grammy winner was mentoring contestants.

Foster, a grandfather, already has five adult daughters. He’s father to 50-year-old Allison and 46-year-old Amy from previous relationships, and with his second, wife, Rebecca Dyer, shares Jordan, 34, Erin, 38, and 39-year-old Sara.

Earlier in the year, Foster told People that he feels his wife “navigates” their blended family “really, really well,” as do his daughters.

“It sure makes it easier for me that they get along,” he explained. “It’s not a fleeting thing either. It’s been a few years.”

Erin, at the time, joked that their “biggest issue ... is how hot she is," but noted that the age difference between the two musicians "has played a role in a positive way.

“Our dad comes from a generation where women are more passive,” she explained. “He is also passive about his feelings. Kat has really pushed him to open up. We could get into a fight, and then Kat’s like, ‘No, you have to pick up the phone, call your daughter back.’ She’s a facilitator, which is really important. She pushes him to be more emotional and more vulnerable.”
