Kate Moss’s Beauty Secrets Involve Charlotte Tilbury and a Bowl of Ice

After many years of red carpet events and fashion shows, supermodel Kate Moss has perfected her routine. “I adore the glam process so much that sometimes I love getting ready even more than the party itself,” she tells Bazaar while getting ready for the Albie Awards in New York. She worked with makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury, who Moss says is also a close friend, to create an “old-Hollywood glamour” look. “Charlotte has been my makeup artist for years, and I love having her and my friends around me [before an event],” she continues. “I always listen to music while I’m getting my hair and makeup done; it helps me to get excited for the evening ahead!”

Other guests at the star-studded Albie Awards included Amal and George Clooney, Cindy Crawford, and Anne Hathaway. The gala was put on by the Clooney Foundation for Justice in New York City on September 28. We caught up with Moss during her glam session to chat about her makeup routine for red carpets, her vintage look for the Albies, and her tricks to go from plane to glam.

Do you prefer wearing bolder or more natural-looking makeup for events?

I love wearing Charlotte’s signature Rock Chick smoky eye paired with a sharp feline flick. We’ve done that look together for years, and I love the way it photographs on the red carpet. It’s the perfect amount of drama, with a little bit of edge. I typically like to accentuate it with a nude lip so that full attention stays on the eyes. It’s a mesmeric combo—a smoky eye with a nude, subtle lip!

What is your getting ready process like?

If I’ve just got off a plane and am heading straight into glam, nothing helps to depuff more than a good face plunge in a bowl of iced water and cucumber slices. It’s an old-school method, but it does the trick every time!

In terms of rituals, the Dawn Tea from Cosmoss is perfect for a morning lift. It contains pu-erh tea, which detoxifies, rosemary to help boost energy, and bay leaves, which aid digestion. It makes for a great start to your morning, particularly when you have a long day ahead.

Does today’s makeup feel like your signature style or did you get out of your comfort zone?

I love tonight’s look. We focused on a gorgeous, glowing complexion using the Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Foundation and Beautiful Skin Radiant Concealer on select areas of the face for a smooth, airbrushed-looking complexion. We added a subtle sparkle to the eye for a touch of glamour and finished with a diffused, blurred lip using her Airbrush Flawless Lip Blur in shade Nude Blur. I love this makeup look. It’s timeless but with a modern twist, thanks to the blur effect on the lips.

What was your inspiration behind the look?

Classic, old-Hollywood glamour with a modern edge, which Charlotte does so well! My dress tonight is a vintage piece from the 1930s. It’s the most gorgeous, delicate, translucent white fabric, which we paired with these fabulous gold platform shoes. It feels timeless but also modern and fresh. The shoes and the makeup helped to give the overall look that bit of modernity we were going for.

What products from the look do you throw into your bag for touch-ups later?

I never leave for an event without Charlotte’s Lip Cheat in Iconic Nude and a mini version of Charlotte’s Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder. They are beauty essentials anytime I need to touch up my complexion or add shape to my lips. Plus, I always carry an eyelash curler, so you can always leave the party looking as fresh as when you arrived!
