Kate Middleton Took a Sweet Photograph of Queen Elizabeth with Her Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren

A new photograph of the late Queen Elizabeth with some of her great-grandchildren and two of her grandchildren has been released to mark what would've been her 97th birthday. The picture was taken by Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales last summer during the royal family's summer holiday at Balmoral.

In the last row are the Queen's two youngest grandchildren: Lady Louise and James, Earl of Wessex. In the middle row are (left to right): Lena Tindall, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Isla Phillips, and Prince Louis. In the front row, Mia Tindall holds Lucas Tindall on her lap next to Queen Elizabeth, and on the other side of the Queen is her eldest great-grandchild Savannah Phillips.

The late Queen had 12 great-grandchildren; missing from this photograph are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, Princess Eugenie's son August Brooksbank, and Princess Beatrice's daughter Sienna Mapelli Mozzi.

This photo joins the sweet tradition of Kate Middleton taking royal family photos. The Princess of Wales typically releases her own photographs to celebrate the birthdays of her children; this is a poignant addition to her portfolio of pictures.

Balmoral was one of Queen Elizabeth's favorite places. "I think Granny is the most happy there. I think she really, really loves the Highlands," Princess Eugenie said in a documentary about her grandmother. Each summer, the royals spend vacation time there in August. Queen Elizabeth passed away at Balmoral on September 8, 2022.
