Kate Middleton Might Make Pippa Middleton Her Lady-in-Waiting
You might think the concept of "ladies-in-waiting" would be a relic of the past at this point, but nope! They're very much still a thing over in the royal family. And apparently Kate Middleton is considering asking her sister, Pippa Middleton, to step into the role.
Before we get into it, ladies-in-waiting are essentially companions who help out with royal duties. Queen Elizabeth had several, and Queen Camilla also has them-ish. (Technically she has six assistants who are known as the “queen’s companions.")
Circling back to the Princess of Wales, royal historian Kate Williams seems to think Kate will choose Pippa once she becomes Queen. Speaking on True Royalty TV's The Royal Beat: Back in Time, via The Mirror, Williams said "I think traditionally, we might expect Catherine to appoint her sister Pippa, because Catherine is so famously close to her family. She doesn't have companions because she's so close to her mother and her sister. I think we might possibly expect that Pippa might be someone she might appoint."
That said, Pippa has her own life and family, and being a lady-in-waiting is kind of a big job: "The letters, the correspondence, the emails are growing every day. So when Catherine becomes Queen, the levels of tours, the levels of letters, the level of receptions, will still require this assistance. So I think she will have to appoint some ladies in waiting."
As of now, Kate doesn't have any ladies-in-waiting whatsoever, but...guess things might change!
