Kate Middleton Channels Queen Elizabeth's Final Buckingham Palace Balcony Appearance

At today's Trooping the Colour parade, the first of King Charles's reign, Kate Middleton's outfit seemed to pay tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth.

The Princess of Wales, wearing a bright green dress by Andrew Gn and a hat by Philip Treacy, appeared to channel the last appearance Queen Elizabeth ever made on the Buckingham Palace balcony during her Platinum Jubilee weekend last year. For that appearance, Queen Elizabeth wore a coat and dress by Stewart Parvin and a matching hat by Rachel Trevor-Morgan.

Kate's entire outfit—in a strikingly similar shade of emerald green—mirrored the late monarch. Both coats featured strong shoulders, and embellished buttons down the front. Each wore brooches with deep significance: Kate wore the Irish Guards Shamrock Brooch, a tribute to her role as Colonel of the Irish Guards, and Queen Elizabeth wore one of Queen Victoria's Bow Brooches. And, the bright green made both of them stand out to be seen easily on the balcony.

At the time of Queen Elizabeth's passing, Prince William wrote, "While I will grieve her loss, I also feel incredibly grateful. I have had the benefit of The Queen’s wisdom and reassurance into my fifth decade. My wife has had twenty years of her guidance and support. My three children have got to spend holidays with her and create memories that will last their whole lives."

He continued, "She was by my side at my happiest moments. And she was by my side during the saddest days of my life. I knew this day would come, but it will be some time before the reality of life without Grannie will truly feel real. I thank her for the kindness she showed my family and me. And I thank her on behalf of my generation for providing an example of service and dignity in public life that was from a different age, but always relevant to us all. My grandmother famously said that grief was the price we pay for love. All of the sadness we will feel in the coming weeks will be testament to the love we felt for our extraordinary Queen."

Recently, to mark what would've been Queen Elizabeth's 97th birthday, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared a snap taken by Kate of the Queen and many of her great-grandchildren.
