Kate Beckinsale has landed her next lead movie role, in a kidnapping drama based on a true story.

The Underworld, Van Helsing and The Widow actor will lead Stolen Girl alongside Fast X actor Scott Eastwood, with Variety reporting that filming is set to begin in Italy imminently.

The film is inspired by the real-life story of an American woman named Maureen Dabbagh, whose ex-husband abducted their daughter and took her out of the US.

In the movie, after years of unsuccessfully trying to find her, Maureen eventually tracks her daughter down in Beirut, thanks to the help of someone who finds internationally-abducted kids for a living.

The synopsis states that the film will show Maureen having to make "the most difficult decision of her life" when faced with her ex-husband again.

Fellow Travelers and The Capture's James Kent is directing the movie, while Iervolino & Lady Bacardi Entertainment (ILBE) is the production company, following on from Adam Driver's Ferrari.

"I'm thrilled to be shooting once again in Puglia, a versatile land that I love and that always manages to cater to our needs," ILBE's Andrea Iervolino said in a statement.

Earlier this year, Beckinsale criticised BAFTA after she was informed it "could not guarantee" that her late stepfather, the TV director Roy Battersby, would be included in its In Memoriam segment.

After BAFTA initially said that it was "never able to make any guarantees of inclusion", a statement received by Digital Spy confirmed that he will be honoured in the In Memoriam segment at the BAFTA Television Awards ceremony, which is due to take place on May 12.

Battersby passed away in January at the age of 87. He was honoured with BAFTA's special award, the Alan Clarke Award, in 1996 in recognition of his contribution to the British TV industry.
