Dennings’ character is named Riley. She is further described as “Matt’s daughter who butted heads with her father growing up and left to marry the boyfriend he hated. Now divorced, Riley’s forced to move back home with two kids, hoping she and her dad can make it work this time.”

The role would mark a return to multi-cam comedy for Dennings, as she previously starred in the CBS series “Two Broke Girls” for six seasons. She also previously starred in the Hulu single-cam series “Dollface” for two seasons. Dennings is perhaps best known for her work in the “Thor” films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having appeared as Darcy Lewis in three of the four “Thor” films as well as the Marvel series “WandaVision” and the animated series “What If…?” Her other film credits include “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” “The House Bunny,” and “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist.”

She is repped by Gersh, Linden Entertainment, and Sloane Offer.

“Shifting Gears” is written and executive produced by Mike and Julie Scully. Allen will executive produce in addition to starring, with Dennings set to produce. Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker and Rick Messina also executive produce. 20th Television is the studio.

Deadline first reported Dennings’ casting.
