Karl Urban May Have Just Accidentally Confirmed Two More Seasons of 'The Boys'

For The Boys Season 3, the crew took their own ante of T-bone whale carcass entrails and exploding heads and raised it one superhero orgy and lots of full body explosiveness—all with a continued, and we’ll say “grotesque,” commitment to practical effects and staging. (The urethra scene—yeah, that was an actual set you can touch and walk around in.)

On the practical topic, one YouTube commenter wanted to know more about lead actor Karl Urban’s preparation for the fight scenes, namely, “How the heck does he train for all these beatings?”

Urban sat down with Men’s Health to unpack all the work that goes into each season, including quite a bit of bruising.

Those beatings: getting tossed around by Homelander (Antony Starr), Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles), and other supes. The stunts appear to require a bit of wirework and a lot of real body shots. (Perhaps one of the reason Urban’s characters wears such thick jackets is to hide the pads. The jacket practically announces what kind of character Butcher is: he’s the kind of character other characters want to punch.)

Urban’s response, however, is likely to spawn even more comment speculation.

“You can’t train for it. I mean, you do for these fights; they’re highly choreographed. But inevitably, you do end up getting banged up and bruised, no matter how much padding you have. In all honesty, it’s not something I look forward to doing. It’s going to be inevitable over the next two seasons. I’m going to be doing more of it.”

Over the next two seasons. Officially, The Boys has only been given a Season 4 confirmation. (Urban says they’ll start making that season soon.) If Urban is in fact hinting at another season following this one, it means not only are we getting even more Boys, but we’re also getting more Butcher; he survives at least another season.

Urban’s remark that the stunts will be worse in the coming seasons also suggests more action—and possibly more action where Butcher retains superpowers. (One imagines those scenes are especially brutal to film.)

Speculation or not, Urban’s comments have us excited. Bring on the crash pads.
