Karen Gillan offers disappointing update on new Jumanji movie

Karen Gillan has shared a disappointing update regarding a new Jumanji film, revealing she is none the wiser when it will be made.

The star played Ruby Roundhouse in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and its sequel, Jumanji: The Next Level, both of which followed 1995’s Jumanji and 2005’s Zathura: A Space Adventure.

With the most recent two instalments performing well at the box office, rumours of a fifth film in the franchise have been rife, but Gillan revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that there is currently no update in production.

“I don’t know,” she began. “I’m sure it’s tricky to wrangle everyone’s schedules, but I haven’t heard anything about it other than the fact that we will be doing it at some point. So we’re all so enthusiastic about it. We all love working on those films, and it’s just a matter of when.”

Gillan had previously provided an update on the project in 2022, in which she said: “Yes I believe there will be another film, I don't know when! It's hard to get everyone's schedules aligned! But we are all very excited to make another one.”

The star has also starred in both the Doctor Who and Marvel franchises, and revealed recently that she was surprised by the twist involving Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which saw the leader quit the Guardians.

“I don't remember seeing that in the script,” she recalled. “So either I have a bad memory or it wasn't in there. So it was pretty surprising, but it was cool as well. I was like, 'Okay, what's the plan here?'”

Whilst fans might have to wait a while to see Gillan as Ruby or Nebula, the star will appear alongside Russell Crowe in Sleeping Dogs, a mystery which follows a detective who attempts to solve a cold case whilst undergoing treatment for Alzheimer's disease.
