Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny spoilers follow.

Karen Allen's Marion Ravenwood may have made a surprise return in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, but Allen wishes her character had a bigger role to play in Indy's final adventure.

Early on in the film, we learn that Indy (Harrison Ford) and his longtime love Marion have separated since the events of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Once Indy hangs up his whip and fedora for the final time, however, he reconciles with Marion as they recreate their kiss scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark.

It was a brief return for Allen, who told Entertainment Weekly that she wishes Marion was "more a part of the adventure of this story".

However, she did also say that she feels a "sense of gratitude" for being able to reprise the role again, adding: "She's such a vibrant, wonderful character, and it would've broken my heart to see her just vanish into the ether."

Although Dial of Destiny is Ford's final outing as the iconic archaeologist, fans can rest easy knowing he has no plans to retire.

"I don’t do well when I don’t have work. I love to work… I love to feel useful. It’s my Jones, I want to be helpful," he said in a recent interview with CNN's Chris Wallace.

Going on to explain what keeps him going, Ford added: "It is the people that you get to work with. The intensity and the intimacy of collaboration… it’s the combined ambition, somehow forged from words on a page.

"I don’t plan what I want to do in a scene and I don’t feel obliged to do anything but I am naturally affected by the things that I work on."

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is out now in cinemas.
