She has risen! And by she, we mean miss Stormi Webster, of course. America’s royal family is back to work pushing the newest season of their eponymous Hulu series, The Kardashians. The show took a brief hiatus, having been off of the air since November 2023. Did the Kar-Jenners use that time off to chill? Absolutely not, and they are bringing us in on the action. The moguls’ fifth season premiered on May 23, 2024, opening on a pregnant Kourtney and a Ryan Murphy-employed Kim.
New episodes of season 5 will drop every Thursday, but we’ve already set our sights on the July 25 finale. After all, a finale just means we’re one step closer to another premiere, right? We’re impossible to satiate, and the dolls made us this way.
While we celebrate a new season of our favorite show, let’s talk about what we know is coming. Which is...honestly not much yet!
Will there be a sixth season of The Kardashians?
Things are in flux with the dolls because as of now, nothing has been officially confirmed. Rumors have swirled about potential endings and spin-offs as Hulu and the powers that be (Kris Jenner) determine the on-screen future of this pack of billionaires. Some have said Kourtney is looking to create her own show – ironic, seeing as she has always been the flakiest reality star in the group.
At the end of 2022, all of the fam's original series Keeping Up With the Kardashians was removed from Hulu and taken to Peacock. It begs the question: Will the Kardashians continue with The Kardashians? Or will they continue it with Hulu? Does it make sense for all of these increasingly different women to share the same show format? Will they give us something other than reality TV? Should they?
Since 2007, the Kardashian empire has used the reality show format to present themselves, initially to garner attention and build fame and in recent years to comment on public narratives. They have taken the “reality” title literally, using the show as a singular source of communication. They use social media to promote their businesses and post swimsuit pics, and they use their show to tell their own stories. And for 17 years, we’ve relished it.
Some say the show is losing its essence as the list of “off limits” topics grows, from individual sisters’ scandals and Kim’s co-parenting struggles with Kanye, to her recently revived public feud with Taylor Swift. There are too many things the dolls won’t talk about these days, and the show suffers for it. We’ve seen their mansions and their cars, and yet we still want more.
All of this to say, we hope to see a season 6 of The Kardashians, but we hope it looks a little different.
